Miss Hong Kong - 2006

TVB, a local television channel, is hosting its annual Miss Hong Kong Pageant. Click here for pictures of the contestants.

Unfortunately, the website/page is in Chinese. Anyway, you can click on each picture for additional details. Also, scroll down for contestant's email address. TVB encourages you to email them. Well, have fun!

PS: The contest will be broadcast tonight (Saturday, August 12, 2006 - 8:30pm) on TVB Jade.

Cheers!

Miss Chinese International Pageant 2006

Note: All links open in new window.

Well, it's that time of the year again. Local TV station TVB is hosting the annual Miss Chinese International Pageant 2006. Look at the pictures of models (click on each picture for a short intro in Chinese/English)

The contest will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2006 at 08:30pm local (Hong Kong) time. Who will win? Make a wild guess in the comments (here at See Lai).

I say "wild guess," because in the past See Lai readers pointed out to me that if TVB hosts Miss Chinese International Pageant, then the (most probable) winner will be Miss Vancouver or Miss Toronto from Canada.

I tried to verify readers' claims. And it does seem that Chinese Canadians usually win TVB contests. Is that a coincidence? I don't know.

Previous two years' Miss Chinese International Pageant details over here and here. You can also check out Miss Chinese category archive for more on Chinese models.

Cheers!

Miss Chinese International Pageant 2005

Two words - Piss Poor!

Folks at TVB are hosting this year's Miss Chinese International Pageant. Take a look at (their) this year's models and pictures; and compare them with their last year's models and pictures.

The quality of models and pictures are hopeless. Furthermore, even on local television they have hardly promoted this event (Pageant 2005), despite the fact that they are supposed to be one of the top-local-terrestrial television channels in Hong Kong.

So what went wrong? Did their management change or do they face budget constraints? It appears that they uploaded the pictures only last night, even though the contest ends on January 29, 2005! Last year they had uploaded good quality pictures almost one month in advance!

Anyway, the links above will take you to both this year's and last year's models' index page(s). I think you will agree with me that it will be very difficult to judge who will win this year. To me, all of them look like blood-hungry ghosts from a cheap horror movie.

Perhaps, TVB needs to take some lessons from the management of See Lai - which is limited to yours truly until now - as in how to host contests and post/upload pictures.

Cheers!

Miss Hong Kong Contest

Folks at the local television station - TVB are organizing this year's Miss Hong Kong pageant.

You can see all 18 contestants via the link (above). Once there, click on each contestant and you will see more information (unfortunately, in Chinese).

Nonetheless, click the tabs on the left side of each contestant's enlarged picture and there are also options for a short video (doesn't work in my browser and connection) as well as email form where you can send your love notes to the contestants.

While I appreciate TVB's efforts, they have done a piss poor job on advertising their contestants (for Miss Hong Kong), and even the quality of pictures (there) suck. Perhaps, they could learn a thing or two from See Lai.

Cheers!

Miss Chinese Pageant - Results

Further to our own Miss Chinese pageant held at See Lai, the final results are as follows:

Winner: Ngo My My - Total Votes (87) popup image or album

As some of you are aware, preparations for the upcoming Miss Hong Kong contest are well under way. And we at See Lai plan to cover the entire contest, including a separate vote poll of our own.

Keep watching the Miss Chinese (category) or threads for further updates. Finally, I thank everyone who supported this event at See Lai. Cheers!

Miss Chinese Pageant - The Final Judgment

Following last week's (first round of) contest for Miss Chinese Pageant, we now have the finalists - 6 contestants who got the maximum votes.

I have set up the updated vote counter in the right side bar and the rules are very simple -

-- You can vote only once until next Sunday, February 22, 2004 (midnight - Hong Kong time +8:00 GMT).

-- It will be very difficult, if not impossible, to play dirty vote tricks with this counter. Last time I was forced to select the other counter because it allowed 25 participants, but had some bugs. I have not corrected the dirty votes yet, but well, the 6 final contestants did get maximum pure votes anyway.

-- The only way your choice of contestant can win in this poll is if she gets more votes than others. I would recommend that there is no point in wasting time by playing around with cookies, browser settings, or even dynamic IP addresses. It would be useful if the time is utilised in requesting more friends and family to vote from different computers and IP addresses.

As far as See Lai is concerned, the winner in this poll with maximum votes will be Miss Chinese and the second highest and third highest will be the first runner up and second runner up respectively.

With that, may the best contestant win.

Miss Chinese Pageant - Votes

Alrightey then!

24 hours after setting up the Miss Chinese - polls, we already have 178 votes. Yesterday I wasn't specific about the rules, so here they are:

-- You can only vote once in this poll. Alternatively, you can invite your friends to vote in the poll [if they are interested].

-- This poll will close on February 14, 2004 at or around midnight and the 6 contestants in this poll with the highest number of votes will be selected for the second final poll.

-- The contestant who wins the highest votes in the second (final) poll will be Miss Chinese [as far as See Lai is concerned].

-- I am aware about some cheating in this current poll. I am tallying the IP address with the vote logs. Therefore, on February 14, 2004, I will delete the dirty votes. Don't blame me, blame yourself.

Note: If you want the contestant of your choice to win, you can always invite your friends to vote. But dirty votes coming from the same IP address within a very short interval, or even a pool of IP addresses alongside See Lai's visit log records can only mean that you may feel happy now, but on February 14, 2004, the true votes will count. Therefore, the votes being reflected at moment may not necessarily indicate a winner [yet].

Finally, to everyone who has supported this event at See Lai, we thank you all.

That is all for the moment folks. Happy Voting.

P.s.: I have added a new category "Miss Chinese" (opens in same window) and transfered all posts related to Miss Chinese International Pageant 2004 in that category. You can just click that category (bottom - left side bar) and take a look at all the related posts.

Miss Chinese Pageant 2004 Final Vote

First of all I want to thank the thousands of visitors who came to See Lai for Miss Chinese Pageant 2004 via different search engines. I understand that this pageant was important to many people all around the world.

However, like any other pageant or competition, now we have different groups where some believe the pageant results were fair and some believe they were not [including me].

Instead of endlessly arguing in the comment box(es) in different posts at See Lai [this site], I hereby propose a simple solution...

Give me two or three days and I will manage to upload [at least the already available images] of all the 21 participants at See Lai in a separate album.

Following which, we will hold a systematic [second] pageant right here at See Lai. You can express your views and opinions as well as your votes in the comment box of that post and I will think about the appropriate time required for closing the votes and declaring the results. We need to give at least two grace days for search engines to spider this post as well as the album. Trust me, I know which keywords to use in the submission(s).

I can ensure you that I will tally the email address with all the votes. People not leaving valid email addresses will simply lose their votes. That is it.

I think this is a very transparent and open exercise where everyone can see the votes + genuine voters and finally all I can say is let the world decide!

If no one votes or comments, then at the end of the specified time, I will declare Jessica Xu as the real winner.

I think this is as clear as I can steer this argument to. What do you say? I will upload the pictures by Monday of coming week [Hong Kong time].

Feel free to leave comments in this post of how you want me to proceed or any suggestions whatsoever.

Many thanks in advance and Cheers!

Well, there you have it. To say that Ah Bo and I are totally disappointed, is a understatement. The results aren't what we expected.

However, watching these beauties and the competition while having dinner at Ah Bo's place, both Ah Bo and I were on the edge of our seats. So to speak.
